Retail maintenance case study: Selfridges

We are delighted to have worked with Selfridges to create a series of luxury retail pop-ups in this iconic store. Selfridges in London’s Oxford Street really does provide a shopping experience like no other: its revolutionary creator promised to “surprise, amaze and amuse” those that stepped foot inside the second largest retail space in the UK. Opening its doors 1909, the Oxford Street store was designed and built to turn the chore of shopping into a fun adventure. The store became the leader in department store innovation by placing products on display for customers to touch and examine, simply unheard of at the time.

Known for its creative displays, Selfridges and its concessions continue to play on the theatre of retail set by itscolourful founder. Brands have to constantly innovate and update their outlets to compete for every customer’s attention across this vast building. One of the ways for retailers to keep up with the trends, without being in a constant state of renovation, is to create pop up shop. These exclusive displays, in situ for a limited time, are definitely dressed to impress, with brands showing off their newest designs and collections for a time-limited period.

Opulous has worked across Selfridges in London creating displays for luxury jeweller, Bulgari. For our team of retail maintenance experts and electrical services wizards, pop ups always provide a unique challenge as the space and design includes the newest of technologies whilst the overall feel must often be in keeping with a traditional feel for the brand. Sometimes appearing overnight, these amazing projects allow brands to experiment with future store designs that, if successful, have the potential to then be rolled out across the world. From custom painted CCTV cameras to bespoke LED lighting, every detail counts.
