Retail maintenance case study: Harrods

Harrods department store in Knightsbridge is the most famous shop in the world. With over one million square foot of selling space across 330 departments; there isn’t much Harrods doesn’t sell. From its well-known food halls to the seasonal Christmas department this nearly 200-year-old company has it all.

When Harrods unveil their Christmas window displays it’s one of the signs in London that the festive season has well and truly begun. Londoners look forward every year to seeing what new visual treats the shop and its retailers have in store for them, showcased in the Christmas windows.

The Opulous team has been working in Harrods for the past two years assisting our friends at Bulgari with the visual merchandising fit outs for their luxury handbags and delicately designed jewellery. Our long-standing relationship with the Italian fashion brand has led to us carrying out a number of luxury pop up stores and window displays in both Harrods and Selfridges in Oxford Street. The creative visual merchandising team at Bulgari in Italy create their visually stunning concepts and themes every year to showcase their products across all of their UK locations for Christmas. We work from the technical drawings supplied by the visual merchandising team to make the design concepts come alive.

We first worked on the Harrods Christmas windows for Bulgari in 2016 Christmas and have again been responsible for the installation of their windows in 2017. The Bulgari range is showcased in the six Hans Road windows of Harrods. Located on the right side of the building, these windows are in the perfect location for those clients entering or leaving the store via the jewellery department. For the 2017 window displays Opulous worked through the night from 8pm to 5am, the night before the Harrods Christmas windows were unveiled, to install power and audio visual equipment as well as creating and installing bespoke TV stands for the display. In addition we commissioned all of the delicate electrical moving parts for these impressive displays.

Harrods Christmas Windows: Opulous Innovation

The Opulous team will continue installing this Bulgari Christmas theme in Heathrow terminal stores in the run up to Christmas and will as usual be providing maintenance for all the window projects.
